Great Britain | Borders has filed for Bankruptcy

The important book chain BORDERS has filed for bankruptcy. The outlets have already been closed and the goods are being collected by the wholesalers.

Borders ran about 36 big bookshops in Great Britain with an annual turnover of about 170 million Euro at last. Founded in 1998 as a subsidiary of the corresponding US-group, which is the number one in the American booktrade, the majority of Borders has been taken over by the investment company Valco only in summer. Borders has probably fallen victim to the unprecedented price war in the booktrade. Prices for books are not fixed in Great Britain.

4.5% of DPV‘s turnover in Great Britain was achieved in BORDERS-stores. Our distribution partner COMAG is now trying to supply additional retailers in the periphery. There are also negotiations with WHSmith High Street and Travel for supplies which cannot be placed at independent retailers. As the retail trade has an important say in the supplies in Great Britain, one is trying to find a satisfactory solution for all parties involved.
